Information requested

You asked for the following information in in relation to to the Wales 20 mph scheme –
1. Welsh Assembly members time

Our Response

I can confirm that we hold some information in relation to your response. 

1. Senedd members’ time

We do not hold this information.

2. Consultant costs

£625,049

3. Debate and meeting costs

We don’t hold this information

4. Policy costs and legislation

Developing policy and legislation and advising Ministers is generally regarded as usual business for a Government department and these costs are not quantified directly.

5. Physical implementation costs including all signage

We are currently conducting a Wales wide inventory of signage and lines for affected by the implementation of the 20mph default speed limit.  The exact costs attached to replacing signage and road lines will not be known until 2023.

6. Policing costs

There is not expected to be additional policing costs above the existing grant provided to GoSafe which is £2.25m per annum.

7. Governance costs 

Governance is generally regarded as usual business for a Government department and these costs are not quantified directly.

8. A copy of the business case

The 20mph Taskforce Report was approved and published in 2020. A Regulatory (Economic) Impact Assessment is currently being undertaken.  This will be published when laying the legislation.

9. A copy of how the effectiveness of this initiative will be monitored and reported

 The Monitoring and Evaluation strategy is attached.

10. How the return on investment will be measured and reported

11. A list of the Senedd members who have led this initiative 

This is a Programme for Government Commitment led by the First Minister and Deputy Minister for Climate Change
