Dear
ATISN 16081 – Tourism tax consultation
Thank you for your request which I received on 14 February 2022. You asked:
I understand the Welsh Government plans to launch a consultation on tourism tax later this year. Please can you tell me the following:-
1) How much the consultation is expected to cost?
2) How a tourism tax would be collected? (by a local authority, by the government etc)
Our response
The information you require is not held by the Welsh Government at the time of your enquiry. The design, scale and scope of the consultation is still in development and therefore it is too early to attribute costings to the consultation exercise. There has been no specific budget allocated towards the consultation.
The policy is still in development and therefore it has not yet been decided how the tourism tax will be collected. Therefore, the information you have requested is not held by Welsh Government at the time of your enquiry. The consultation exercise later this year will explore key design questions which will help inform how a tourism tax would be administered.
