Building regulations

The Building Regulations 2010 cover the construction of new buildings and the alteration or extension of an existing building.

They ensure the health and safety of people in and near buildings and cover:

  • saving energy
  • access
  • use of buildings.

If you are not sure whether you require building regulations you should check with a building control body, either the local authority or private approved inspector.

Penalties and problems

The person doing the work could be prosecuted and fined if they don’t comply with building regulations.

Your local authority could make you pay for faulty work to be fixed.
