The affordable housing projects delivering the houses of the future.

The programme aims to create demonstrator schemes to help inform the Welsh Government, Housing Associations and Local Authorities about the type of homes it should support in the future.

The Programme, which is funded by £29m over two years, seeks to stimulate the design and delivery of new quality, affordable homes to:

  • increase supply as part of the 20,000 target
  • speed up delivery of homes to the market
  • trial new housing models and methods of delivery that address issues such as pressing housing need; fuel poverty; demographic change; help carbon reduction targets
  • prove the replicability of innovative housing models.

The programme is split into two phases:

Phase 1

In 2017/18 it will fund social housing projects from Registered Social Landlords and Local Authorities. Financial support will be provided to schemes from the Year 1 budget allocation, with the aim of them being delivered within 6-9 months. The projects will act as demonstrators of the type of innovation which can be achieved.

Phase 2 onward

This will start in 2018/2019 and will fund prospective innovative projects from both private companies and social landlords that can be delivered within that financial year.
